THE BEAUTY OF 392
The low intonation of this instrument (392 hz)  places it near the warm timbre of the contralto voice, just as the color of the transverse flute must have, according to the esthetics of the time. It is a balanced, centered,  yielding instrument, the original of which was made by Charles Bizey, one of the leading makers of woodwind instruments in early 18th century France. It is made of boxwood and is in four sections. It can be heard at the beginning of the Ad te suspiramus from Salve Regina by Antonio Vivaldi
